The Review

What You Can Expect Upon Delivery

These enameled cast-iron Dutch ovens are made from cast iron which is heavy-duty. As with other cast iron cookware from the thick bottom and thick walls of the oven, you will get even heating.

You will notice the wide loop handles on the side of the Dutch oven. These handles will give you a secure grip for easy transport. They are also wide enough to fit in thick oven mitts so you won’t get burned.

The heavy secure-fitting lid stays in place to retain even heat, moisture, and flavors while cooking.

This model Dutch oven comes in two rich colors blue and red. It also comes in a variety of sizes which are the compact 4.5-quart, the midsize 6-quart, and for those wanting a larger oven a 7-quart.

Dutch Oven Uses

You will be enjoying full-flavored nutritious food in no time with this Dutch oven. The enamel finish won’t react to food so this Dutch oven can be used to marinate, cook, and store food.

You will be baking, braising, roasting, boiling, and much more. You will also be able to prepare all your favorite dishes such as oats, beans, roasts, soups, stews, chillis, and deserts.

Don’t forget to experiment with new recipes to make the most of your Dutch oven.

Where Can You Use This Dutch Oven

This Dutch oven can be used on cooktops such as gas, electric, glass, ceramic, or even a barbecue.

Extreme care must be taken when using the enameled Dutch oven on ceramic or glass-topped cooking surfaces. Lifting and not scraping the oven across the cooktop will ensure that it is not scratched in the cooking process.

The same goes when using the enameled cookware on a barbeque grill extreme care will protect the enamel on the bottom surface of the oven.

This AmazonBasics cast iron Dutch oven can also be used in a conventional kitchen oven. It is oven-safe up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Please remember safety first when lifting the lid of the Dutch oven after removing it from the conventional oven as it will be hot.

One-Pot Cooking With The Oven

Best way to prepare a meal even if you use the stovetop and conventional oven combination!

Start by adding either water or oil of choice before you slowly heat the Dutch oven. This method will prevent cool food from sticking to a very hot Dutch oven.

Then just saute, brown on the stovetop add the rest of your ingredients cover, and either continue on the stovetop or place in the oven.

After cooking just place this lovely Dutch oven on the table and serve your hot meal straight from it. Replace the lid and the food will retain heat ready for seconds if required.

Don’t forget after the Dutch oven has cooled you can place it and the leftovers in the refrigerator for later.

Care When Cooking

When cooking it is best to avoid metal utensils. These will undoubtedly over time scratch or chip the enamel finish.

The best utensils are heat-resistant silicone, plastic, wooden spatulas, etc only.

Check out this article which will advise you on the best accessories and utensils to use with your Dutch oven.

Care and Maintenance

The manufacturer advises that this Dutch oven is not dishwasher safe.

Therefore hand washing in warm soapy water before rinsing in clean water is preferred.

In the case of sticking, burning or food particles adhering to the Dutch oven boil water in the Dutch oven for a couple of minutes.

Then use plastic scrapers to gently release the particles. Then non-abrasive pads remove other food residues. After that then go on to wash by hand with warm soapy water.

The oven should be hand dried thoroughly before storing as this will prevent rusting.

Citrus-based cleaners can be used on the outside only every now and then to protect the exterior gloss.

CLICK HERE you will then be taken over to Amazon and see this Dutch oven for yourself.

Amazon Basics Pros and Cons

Let’s have a look at the pros and cons that come with this Dutch oven.

Pros

  • Awesome one-pot cooking.
  • Even though the knob is metal it does not get too hot on the stovetop. But beware of using the Dutch oven in the conventional oven.
  • The blue and red colors that these enameled Dutch ovens come in are rich and smooth.
  • The smooth enamel makes cleaning very easy.
  • These Dutch ovens are heavy and sturdy which most people love.
  • It comes with an AmazonBasics limited 1-year warranty.

Cons

  • Not dishwasher safe.
  • These Dutch ovens are heavy so buyer beware if you cannot manage to move these Dutch ovens around your kitchen when fully laden.

Buyers that consider cast iron heavy should consider another lightweight option. You can see my review on The Guy Fieri Light-Weight Cast Iron 5.5-Quart Dutch Oven by clicking here.
